Do you remember as a child, how your parents would yell "Watch where you're walking!?" My mother loved a clean house with her six children and husband and it was a chore keeping that house as well as she always wanted it. When we'd go outside, she would remind us not to walk on the neighbors' lawn. When we'd walk to the neighborhood store, there was a vacant lot we always passed where the neighborhood would walk/curb their dogs. Sometimes, we'd come home from that walk and we had stepped in gum, candy, and dog poo! Those things were the hardest to get off our shoes and the latter one came with a stench!!! Ewww!!! After a few episodes like that, Mommy always reminded us "Watch where you're walking! Don't track that mess in my house, on my floor, in my carpet!!!!"
Psalm 1 tells us that we're blessed when we don't walk in the counsel of the ungodly, don't stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of the scornful. I've attached the entire passage here from the New International Version to bring context to this message. Watch where you're walking; watch where you're standing; watch where you're sitting!!! Don't track things into your life that will negatively affect you and others you're in relationship with -- no matter how intimate or casual. Where you walk, stand, and sit matters to your life, your purpose; other's lives and their purpose; and to the God who created you. Focus on being the fruitful, productive one. Let's not be like trash that blows with every whiff of the wind. The Lord is watching over you to bring you to the greatness you desire and deserve so "watch where you're walking."
Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
